Natural World

I was happy to have been chosen in the top three for October and delighted to be asked to do another guest designer spot. For this challenge, Natural World, I chose to make an 8x8 hanging, the twist was to add a flower. There are more details on the crafts4u2 do challenge site.

Still have a bit of shopping to do but cards all finished ,written and posted, tree and decorations up and still over a week to go, now it's what have I forgotten ?

Frosty village

I've tried to keep things simple this year as I'm inclined to get carried away and pile on more and more, as I was also trying to keep my cards flat to avoid extra postage I was quite conscious of what I was adding, I do quite like the simplicity of this card, the joycraft papers are so pretty and make lovely backgrounds. The stamp is Hobby Art, bought last year and didn't get used and a spellbinders die.

Back again

Hopefully this is the last batch of Christmas cards for this year ! I've been struggling to get them done what with total lack of inspiration and also the rheumatoid arthritis has been playing up and my hands have been quite painful again, enough of that though, today I've written most of my cards ,just the hand delivery ones to do, I've made a conscious effort this year to keep the cards flat enough so I don't have to pay extra postage!   This card is made mostly with Craftwork Cards papers which I have used a lot of this year, love them, stamp is Stampendous and poinsettia is spellbinders

another white on white

I thought this was going to be a quick post but it has taken longer to try and get a picture of the card thank it did to make it and it still doesn't show detail very well. I did manage to keep it clean even though I had been doing some messy stuff right before.

The Big Guy

Well I wasted last night and most of this afternoon playing about with stencils and embossing pastes, what I discovered was 1) it's not as easy as it looks and 2) one make of embossing paste takes on colour from the colour card is on as it dries, as I wanted sparkly white a sort of bluey/green wasn't quite what I was looking for, the winner by a long chalk was the Poppy Stencil glossy white, scattered glamour dust on it while it was wet and got just the effect I wanted, now I just need to work out some kind of card design! Got fed up of trying so decided to do something else , haven't used  my stampendous Santa this year so giving him an airing or rather think he's in a frantage blizzard, this is the kind of card I like making so it came together fairly quickly except I tried talking on the phone at the same time and spilt frantage ep everywhere!

Wintry Snowbird

Here he is again, this little bird just makes me smile when I stamp it, so fluffy and cute ! Used up some DP that I think was a freebie from a magazine, doily, die cut music and snowflakes, enjoyed making this one ,the only thing I had a problem with was putting snow on the branches and berries, I had a tube of some snow stuff but it had dried up, tried frantage but was impossible to keep it in place, after much rooting about finally found a pot of flock, goodness knows how old that is which is maybe why it hasn't worked too well, looked ok when I did it but when the glue dried it seemed to have absorbed the flock, gave it another layer but its still not the effect I wanted, must find something else to use.

Flittered

Struggled to get a decent scan of this card , the gold snowflakes looked black and I have had to mess about with the tone to get anything like the colours, did try a photo but that was even worse.  Doing a last minute entry into Fashionable Stamping's challenge not to use ink to stamp with.  The baubles are stamped with flitterglu and flakes, I've finally mastered using it after being given a personal demo by Kay at Port Sunlight. I have used ink to stamp the sentiment but think I can get away with that?

Snowbird

I had lusted after this little bird stamp last year but resisted it but have given in this year and got it, I think its a Chickadee really but it makes a nice fluffy Robin too.  The DPs are Joycraft except for the music, I seem to have a theme going for bits of torn music paper this year.

This is a one layer card I made with the free stamps from Creative Stamping, bit of masking for the hill and the moon , trees stamped in green and second generation stamped as well ,sky and moon coloured with pan pastels, love how quick they are to use, snow courtesy of Frantage chunky white EP.

Merry and Bright

I was determined I wasn't buying more Christmas stamps this year other than the snowman but guess what ? I couldn't resist the Sizzix stamps and dies in the holiday joy set. I have the deer in the big dies but always think its too big for a card, these are scaled down more to card making size. Bit of Joy craft DP and a couple of pieces of torn paper, bit of ribbon and the frantage chunky white EP for snow. The sentiment stamp is a freebie from Creative Stamping, they have a lovely set of stamps on the latest magazine.

Hallow'een

still struggling with the cough and chest problem so very little craft stuff the last couple of weeks. Today the Doctor put me on antibiotics so hope they kick in soon, fed up of feeling ill all the time !  Had a friend over today and it was so nice to have someone to craft with for a change.  Most of the challenges the last couple of weeks seemed to have been hallow'een or Autumn and while I do like them I don't usually make much in those themes as they never seem to be of any use for anything! I only have a couple of hallow'een stamps so not much to play with, however tonight  I have just made a couple of ATCs .

whoops!

Don't know why but I thought I had another week to do something for Fashionable stamping challenge, where does the time go? So this is a very hurried card for the challenge to use masks or stencils. Used crafters workshop trees with stormy sky distress ink for the background and Hobby Arts stamps for the moose? and robin. Quick and cheerful card ,another one in box. Last year I had made most of my Christmas cards by now, don't seem to be able to get going this year

all at sea

I've got the most horrendous cold or rather sore throat and cough and would have liked nothing better than to have stopped in bed all day but as I couldn't sleep for coughing I've just been half heartedly messing about with stuff.  The stamped image in the centre in another of my new stamps from Inkilicious, loving these collage images of theirs. Background is cover a card  stamp from impression obsession and the quadrant and anchor are Kanban. , The white dots at the top were texture paste through a stencil. now I didn't know you shouldn't heat it so I did and it blew up into bubbles which burst, quite fascinating but not what I meant to do but being in a gung ho mood thought I'd just leave them.Bit of holey stuff and frontage embossing powders in marine and white, bit of crackle on the quadrant and anchor. Fits a few challenges I hope

New snowman

I cased this card from one that the lovely Lindsay Mason had at GNP  , don't usually do this but I really liked her card, this is not a patch on hers but I enjoyed making it .Lindsay had used one of her steampunk snowmen ,this is my "this years" one from L.O.V , well you have to have a new snowman every year don't you?. I used her technique of colouring the snowman and then painting with glue'n'seal before doing the background with distress inks, it's not as patchy as it looks on here though. The "snow" is frantage chunky white which will, I'm sure, be appearing a lot more before Christmas .  Not for anything in particular , a "just because I wanted to" card.

Personal challenge!

At the GNP and on several internet sites lately I have been seeing a lot of white on white cards, now as a totally mucky pup stamper it's way outside my comfort zone but having accumulated a number of scenic dies I was temped to have a go this afternoon and I must say I'm pleased with the result! It was hard to keep my fingers off the ink pads as it's second nature to always ink the edges of everything.  I did try to scan it but as my scanner glass has blobs of glossy accents and glitter etc that was not a success( I did try to clean it but the glossy accents has been on so long it don't want to shift)so had to mess about with the camera, this is the best of a poor lot. Putting it on a few challenges

Elegant Ladies

Love these flonzcraft ladies, got the stamps a few weeks ago but just got round to playing with them, the shoe stamps and the style stamp are old  Hero arts. Paper pieced the dresses and the red shoes.Wore dresses like this in the 1950's but don't think I ever looked as elegant as these two!

Autumn Birds

Playing with some new stamps at got at GNP last Saturday, Vintage Birds and the leaves are from Inkylicious, love their stamps and they are such good prices, I was happy to see AliCrafts there too, always lots of tempting things on their stand. Less exhibitors once again, the hall seemed very empty but I still managed to come home with a heap of stuff!

I've almost missed all the Autumn challenges, although I love the autumn colours whenever I make autumn cards they seem to languish in my box and never seem to be appropriate for anyone, however this one is destined for a friend who's birthday is next week so hopefully she will like it (she doesn't look on my blog so it's ok to show it now)

Vintage sepia and cream

Don't know what is going on with me these days, I have never gone so long with no inclination to make anything! Even my visit last Saturday to Port Sunlight didn't do anything for me, bought very little, only three stamps although I did get several new stencils etc and embossing pastes etc but they are still sitting in the carrier bag, Roused myself enough to make a fairly simple card for Make My Monday challenge which is Vintage with sepia and cream plus optional pink &/or Blue.

More Bits And Bobs

Another card made with the bits in last years Christmas card making box. The topper and poinsettia were already made ,just added the DP. I remember when I made this topper thinking I would not be doing many as it took for ages to paperpiece the tree.  We are going away for a few days from tomorrow so I am hoping to come back with some inspiration, we are back on Friday just in time for me to go to Port Sunlight on Saturday, so hopefully will come back from there fired up and ready to go!

Bits and bobs

Seems my blog has been well and truly neglected lately, mostly because that Mr Mojo has taken off on vacation yet again!  I seem to have spent all this last week just gazing blankly at all the enormous stash of stamps etc that I have and not been able to think of a single thing to do with them.Last night I came across a box containing all the bits and pieces left over from making last years Christmas cards and challenged myself to make a card with some of the bits. Everything on the card except the pieces of DP came from the box and there is a lot more stuff in there !

Resisting!

This is the third time I've tried to do this post, hopefully will work this time !  Fashionable Stamping challenge this time is for resist techniques which is something I do use a lot, I've used two different types on this card, the two backgrounds pieces are stamped with versamark and coloured with pan pastels, one of my favourite ways of doing backgrounds as its so quick and easy, the centre panel is also stamped with versamark and embossed in white, then coloured with distress inks. Also entering the card on Try It On Tuesday which is make your own flowers, I'm not a big fan of very dimensional flowers although they look lovely it usually means having to make a box for the card with the added expense of the extra postage (well I am Yorkshire born and bred !) These are just stamped and die cut with the button centres added. Also entering it int0 Vintage Stamping challenge which is anything from your garden -flowers and seed packet and Creative Inspirations - anything goes, I have used their sketch.

Another ICAD swap

Folder of ICAD from Alison  - must point out that the ribbon was tied so much better when it arrived, I have undone it and retied it several times and tying bows is not my strong point !

This is the inside of the folder, love the bookpages used
and this is the ICAD that was inside

Love this ICAD and folder and feel very lucky to have had two such lovely swaps, thanks again to
Elly and Alison  and to Astrid for organising it.

Serengeti

Well I've dug deep into the old stamps with this one, I had completely forgotten I have a drawer full of Judikins cube stamps which were all the rage about 10 years ago, most of them are dated 2002/3 ! I was looking for something to" make a scene"  with for Make my Monday and when I came across them I realised that the Serengeti cube would also fit for the Craft Barn Alpha/dictionary challenge letter Z. Background coloured with distress inks and a bit of masking and its another page for my Fat Book.

Time Traveller

I was lucky enough to be a winner on Crafts-Too challenge and as well as receiving a lovely parcel of crafting goodies I was asked if I would like to do a guest designer spot.

The challenge this month is texture and it's something I do like to use on my cards. On this piece I have used two embossing folders ,an embossed die cut watch, frantage embossing powder, torn card, glossy accents on the goggles and my favourite bit is the piece of inky kitchen towel which was left from mopping up inks on an earlier project.

The twist this month is to choose your own style, I don't seem to have a particular style, whatever takes my fancy at the time , shabby chic, vintage, collage and I do love steampunk !

Vintage lady

Well another week almost over and no crafting done! I've been busy outside as we are having a new driveway and it's meant having to move a lot of plants etc, was hoping it was going to be finished today but everything stopped due to the heavy rain, typical after all the beautiful weather we have had. Found this Hero stamp and die set in a sale bin at well under half price ,do like a bargain ! also got some Wendy Vechi stamps and Brenda Walton dies also at under half price ,haven't had chance to play with them yet.

Holder and envelope

Inside the holder
Beautiful ICAD

This the fabulous ICAD and holder I received from Elly in the swap organised by Astrid. I was above thrilled when this arrived, the pictures don't do it justice although you can see some of the beautiful shimmer on the middle picture, it arrived in a lovely decorated envelope, wrapped in tissue ,tied with twine and a lovely little tag attached.  I'm just hoping the people I'm swapping with aren't expecting something as fabulous as this ! Have a look at Elly's blog to see the other ones she made for the swap The holder is made from painted fabric.

messy owl

well I almost didn't post this as it's a bit of a mess, I've messed about all night trying to do something for the Alpha/dictionary challenge, nothing inspired me about the letter O.  I tried to do something with an oak tree stamp and leaf stamp, binned all those attempts, spent ages rooting about in stamps ,nothing appealed, finally found my steampunk owl and decided he would have to do! I started to colour him with distress markers which I have had for a while and never used but they were a disaster so he's a bit of a funny colour, couldn't get them to blend at all , decided I don't like them and will go back to my favourite colouring medium of water colour paints and pencils which I've used for years. Anyhow here is my fat book page for the Craft Barn Alpha/dictionary challenge Letter O

Shabby Butterfly

I really should have been making a card for a Son In Law but felt more like making something more feminine! I had seen something on Pinterest (Did I say I was obsessed ?) about making doilies with corner punches so had a go with the only Martha Stewart corner punch I own, not perfect but worked pretty well ,the pin said if it wasn't perfect stick an embellishment over the bit that was wrong so that's what I did. Papers are G45 secret garden. The flowers are another obsession I have at the moment for stamping them on canvas that has been spray inked, stencilled and stamped , of course the ones I have already made never match what I am doing so I have to make more and more. Few challenges I think it fits:

HappY Birthday To You

Where has this week gone? I seem to have been crafting but haven't made anything I can post on my blog yet. Tonight I realised I have three family birthdays next week and no suitable cards (how is it that even though I have a box full of cards nothing ever seems to be appropriate ? )  so tonight  in between chattering on the phone to a friend, getting absorbed in gawking at stuff on Pinterest- I'm obsessed with it LOL  I put together this simple card for four year old Great Grand daughter .That's one down and two to go !   Thought I would put this on Make My Monday challenge which is a for a new baby or a child's Birthday Card.

Dictionary

While I was rooting about looking for a stamp I came across these dictionary stamps a friend gave me and I've never got round to using them, I missed one of the Craft Barn alphabet dictionary challenges and had not had any ideas for the current one which is the letter D, soon as I saw these stamps I knew what my letter D would be, torn dictionary page, stamps ,dylusion inks and some alphabet stickers and another fat book page done.

reflections

The second challenge at The Male Room is for reflections, either meaning of the words, I've got the reflection of the boat and I think the words are a bit reflective too .All stamps except the anchor are from Artistic Outpost Huck Finn plate which I really do not use enough, coloured with pan pastels. I had a terrible time doing the reflection ,couldn't get my head round which way to roll the brayer ,then it was upside down, choice words were used! anyhow I am happy with how it turned out in the end.

Sit Back

I think I've only missed a couple of Fashionable Stamping challenges since it started but when I saw the new challenge I nearly decided to miss this one out, it's so not my genre, I don't do clean and I don't do simple! but hey ho that's what challenges are all about isn't it?  The other thing I don't do is straight and you would not believe how difficult I found it to even stick post it notes in a straight line to mask out the centre bit !  I have seen a lot of cards recently with the coloured strip across the centre so thought I'd give it a go, I used pan pastels which was maybe not the wisest thing to do as I ended up with dusty bits on the white but they came off easy enough with the eraser, anyhow this is my version of clean and simple one layer ( the dark surround is just the piece of card I used to scan it on)

Navigateur

Quick card for a new challenge which started today or rather yesterday as its now after midnight ! I actually quite enjoy making masculine cards as I like anything nautical/vintage cars/trains etc, plus I'm drawn to browns and blues rather than pretty pinks etc. Got this stamp a while ago but hadn't used it before, bit of map DP, mesh, anchor  and one of my very oldest stamps, the compass.

Gradually getting back into crafting, must say the stamp press is a blessing, lovely clean stamping with no effort .  Just a layered card with minimal stamping but I'm getting there slowly !
Fashionable Stamping challenge is for Script/books/pages/print, think I've got a bit of everything on here, the paper covered buttons I made a while ago  and then never used them but they fitted well on here, the paper flower got a bit flattened in the scanner though.

Postcard

This is a postcard I made a few weeks ago but haven't blogged before so I thought I could put it on Unruly Paper arts challenge - postcards from the edge, I would love to do an arty/edgy one but not up to doing that right now although much ,much better than I was, still on quite high doses of medication but hopefully they will start and cut it down when I go back next week.

Pink?

Make it Monday challenge this week is an inspirational picture, very pretty but a bit sugary for me, however I am trying to get back into doing a few challenges so thought I'd give it a go! While I was sorting out some boxes of card stock I found some pretty pink pearly type card so that started me off .My stamp press finally arrived from Create and Craft and it does work well, just take a bit of getting used to. I've had this Crafty Individual stamp a while and not used it before. Anyhow for the challenge I've taken from the picture The bird cage, white flowers and the colour pink. Also putting it on The Alphabet challenge which is Lace.

sneaking in at last minute with another fat book page for the Craft Barn Alpha/dictionary challenge, my word is youngster, nearly forgot about the yellow so coloured the cap and T shirt stripes yellow

Yeah, I finally managed to stamp a card, quite basic for me and the sentiment is not straight but I so enjoyed making it. My stamp press has still not arrived, first time I have ever ordered from create and craft and think it will be the last ! Sits and Thinks

Had a fab day out at the seaside, guaranteed to lift anyone's spirits, fish'n'chips, ice cream and paddling in the sea on a beautiful hot day, don't take much to please me!  Even felt like a little crafting tonight too. I'm still waiting for my stamp press to arrive so still struggling a bit to stamp as my fingers are still quite stiff and sore(but lots better)  This is just another of my inky experiments backgrounds and the girl and mushrooms were already stamped and waiting to be used. they are from another of my new Lindsay Mason stamp sets, cut them out and added them to the tag, I did manage to stamp the quote (another new one) onto the tag, not very straight but not too bad, the little leaves round the top are an Inkylicious stamp.

Stamp Press ?

Help !   does anyone know if Fiskars still make the Stamp Press and does anyone know where I  can buy one ?  I watched some videos on you tube and it looked like it could help me to use my stamps, I still can't grip anything properly and I'm just so frustrated at not being able to do anything. Spent the last two hours searching without success.  How are you all coping with the heat, unbearably close and humid today.

Saturday, 6 July 2013

Finally got a little bit of crafting

Spent several hours at Chapel Allerton Hospital last Wednesday and finally got somewhere, loads of tests, ultra sounds and armfuls of bloods but at last I'm getting some treatment. They have a an Arthritis research programme there and I have been put on that. Up to now there are no rheumatoid markers so they think it is inflammatory arthritis which is more or less the same thing. It's in almost all my joints and its unbelievably painful! However I am now on steroids and they seems to be kicking in hence managing to make the fat book page in the last post.

I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who have left me such kind and encouraging comments, believe me they are so much appreciated

Lindsay Mason Class

I Have had a place on the Lindsay Mason class booked for weeks and was really looking forward to it
All this week I have been thinking I would have to cancel as I was sure I wouldn't be able to do the cards with my hands as they are, however I decided at least I could sit and watch and there is nothing wrong with my mouth so could at least have a natter. Anyhow with the help of others on the class and the lovely Lindsay I did complete one card and have just finished off the other tonight. I was totally exhausted and ended up sleeping for several hours when I got home but it was worth it!  I love Lindsay's quirky stamps and she is such a friendly and helpful lady.
I am seeing the Consultant on Monday and I am hoping to get at least some decent pain relief and find out exactly what's going on. I am so fed up of not being able to do anything, I don't mind so much I can't do the housework but I am so missing my crafting!
