Dressmakers emporium

This is a house box I bought back in September and its been lurking about in here ever since. I did start it before Christmas but had to abandon it to do Christmas stuff. I painted in with gesso and then pink acrylic paint then lined the shelves with some sewing themed papers, covered the edges with washi tape. Added bits of ric rac, lace and tape measure ribbon to the front edges and stuck buttons round the eaves. Most of the pieces on the shelves are from my old haberdashery collection. The dressmaker figure is a Kaisercraft stamp and the sign she is holding is a S'dees set
This is the top shelf, old cotton reels, large button, some old scissors and the metal thing that says blindfold is a needle threader !
On these shelves, a little bottle with tiny buttons in,thimbles, thread and part of  an old suspender
Here we have old needle packets, some old buttons and a reel with some ribbon
Bottom row has a pin cushion made from a bottletop, tapemeasure and spool with some fabric swatches and the last one is two little pots of sequins and some sequins on a card although they don't show up very well. Finally added the dressmaker and a pair of scissors to the front.  All the bits and pieces are just held in with blu tac so I can change them when I get bored with it ( or when it gets too dusty even for me !)

Spotlight On Our Creative Corner

I'm happy to be chosen to be in the spotlight at Our Creative Corner, pop over and take a look, they have some great challenges and a very friendly design team

My showcase piece is in my favourite style of vintage. Stampendous St Nick is stamped twice, one oval area cut out and mounted over the other stamped background, the die cut snowflakes are part of the frostyville oval wreath, I threw on some frantage shabby white e.p and mounted the piece on some background papers fromKaisercraft, added a piece of lace and chipboard numbers which have been triple embossed.

Using up the left overs !

A friend came for the day yesterday and we finished off Christmas cards and then started making tags with the left overs which has worked out well for Fashionable Stamping challenge this week which asks for die cuts. This tag has plenty, nestabilty bauble x 2, marianne holly x2, part of memory box winter village and part of frostyville border.Started with a piece of green paper and stamped justrite music on it,the word joy ,deck the halls and the red stamped bauble are all from justrite deck the halls stamp set

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

I don't do a lot of cute stuff but Iwas rather taken with this Santa with his pointy boots and bulging sack. Its a Stampography stamp I got at Port Sunlight, along with a few more of theirs, they stamp very well and were very reasonably priced, something I like especially in Christmas stamps that won't get used that much, just a simple little card that I made a few of as I thought they would be nice for the great grandchildren. Cute snowman

Made this card a while ago after I fell for these Lyndsay Mason stamps at Port Sunlight show, I love this little snowman sitting on the log with the robin. I've never been very good at "making scene" stamps but these are very easy to use. I'm not entering this on any challenges, just wanted to post something to make sure my blog was working ok after I finally gave in and paid for more space, it was too much of a hassle resizing the pictures for the sake of less than £2 a month.

snowy postcard

I think just about everyone has got this stamp and I'm not surprised, last year I made a lot of cards with Stampendous Christmas Santa postcard and I've made a load with this one this year, they have had some fabulous Christmas stamps this year and I've gone a bit overboard with them ,have used most of them and they'll always come in for next year ! It's such a lovely stamp I don't think it needs much else with it so I've just embossed the top and bottom with a sizzix border folder and added a bit of distress ink and the bow on top. Entering on these challenges

Sparkle ?

Well you learn new stuff everyday when you get so frustrated with things !  I do have a very good photo editing programme but have no idea how to use it!  After advice from Netty to reduce my picture size I went on T'internet and found some instructions, back to photo editing and after some swearing and such finally found out how to reduce the pixels, now to all you clever people out there it is probably just dead simple but I feel quite pleased with myself!  Anyhow after all that here is my card for a couple of challenges

Fashionable Stamping - Home sweet home
Try It On Tuesday -  Christmas Sparkle

Found this stamp while looking for something else, stamped onto a spellbinders circle with spellbinders holly motif behind it. BG stamped with free snowflake stamped with versamark and coloured with pan pastels AND I finally used my shabby white frantage embossing powder, now it will be appearing on everything !

Help ?

I can't post any pictures on my blog, told my storage is full, I have deleted 12 months of posts and made no difference, told I can purchase more storage but I'm a bit iffy about setting up a payment plan with google ! has anyone else done this and does it work ok ? would appreciate any help

Oh Baubles !!!!!

Being of a stubborn and contrary disposition I do not like to be defeated by a rubber stamp but these baubles seem to defy me at every turn !  I got this stamp a few years ago after seeing someone demonstrating it at a show using black card and pearl ex paints, stunning cards!  when I got it home and played with I realised I did not want to make Christmas cards with black backgrounds and it seems whatever I do with this stamp it never really works for me. This time I stamped and embossed the baubles in gold, masked them off and stamped the Christmas text over them and then coloured them in with copics and lots of glitter and stickles. Background panel stamped with versamark and coloured with pan pastels. The twirly swag at the top is also embossed and copic coloured. I really don't understand why the baubles look pink on here as they are coloured with Ruby copic pen which is certainly not pink,. Embossed at the bottom with a sizzex border folder and the bits of holly are from a memory box die.  Anyhow after all that I'm entering in a few challenges:

Santa's sleigh

Been playing with the Memory box dies again, just love them and I want more !  On this card I've used winter village and frostyville border, the little stars are the bits out of the border stamp.Santa and sleigh are from Inkylicious and the moon and sky are coloured with pan pastels.  I thought I could enter this on a new challenge blog  - addicted to c.a.s , now this might not be c.a.s to some but it is for me ! I was going to matt and layer it but instead decided just to ink round the edges of the panel, I was itching to add something else but thought I would get it posted on here before I got carried away.

Thomas Kinkade

While I love the Thomas Kinkade stamps, I find them really hard to work with, no problem stamping the image but then what to do with it?  I almost gave up on this one but finally decided on a bit of lacy stuff to lighten it up a bit, I do love the frostyville border but what a faff to glue it on ( I just realised it would probably go through my mini xyron !)  The stamp is Cornish Heritage Stonehearth Hutch and I'm entering it on their challenge

Baubles

This is the die cut that broke my cuttlebug! Romantic rectangle (thats it's proper name, not what I called it at the time !)  Its obviously a faulty die as it wouldn't cut in my friends bug and it still won't cut in my new one , this is one of the few I managed to force through with extra shims until I bust the bug.  I really wanted to get a Bigshot but I just don't have anywhere to put one, I don't have a proper craftroom and everything has to be put away each night.  The ornament die is another nestabilities stamped with Justrite bauble stamps. The main stamp is Lily Of The Valley. memories

I thought I would try and get away from my usual pinks and lilacs that I always seem to go for in doing this kind of card but I'm not too sure I'm happy with the greens and browns. Whenever I pick up this stamp I think about my sisters, I think my younger sister bought me this stamp a long while ago, but this card is really about my older sister who got married and went to live in California when I was 19 years old, I never stopped missing her. In the early years we kept in touch by letter and she was so good at writing to all the family, later when the phone calls became a little less expensive we managed a few calls, then of course we got the internet and could write every day if we wanted to.She did visit home regularly until her husband became ill and the visits were harder to arrange and we did manage a few trips over there.  She is no longer with us and I still miss her every day. Although I covered most of it up one paper has postcards and postage stamps etc on it and the script one is to represent a letter. She was a happy, bubbly person and this is about my happy memories of her.

Live Life

I thought I was going to actually do two posts in one day, something I haven't done for ages but looking at the clock its going to be into Monday a.m by the time I get it done. This is just a collage type card, something I do enjoy doing although I usually have some stamping on them somewhere but not on this one. I don't know where the image came from, I am trying to be better at keeping a note of where they are from but don't always remember to do it, the papers are all Graphic 45 and the wording is a Kaisercraft stamp.

Not a Christmas card !

Change from making Chrsitmas cards today. Its been a lovely day here so spent a couple of hours in the garden cutting back the herbaceous plants and cleaning up the soggy leaves from the lawn. Fashionable stamping challenge this time is Music so dug out this Cornish Heritage stamp and the wording from a Stampman set. The music piece is a Just Rite background stamp. The Background paper is done with a Stampin up jumbo wheel, versamark ink and pan pastels so I think that could count as a make your own background paper ? I have just got the music die and I think it will be very useful.

Silly me ! I had not posted my card on to the challenges, not the first time I've forgotten to do it either, must be a senior moment thing.

Another Christmas card

I decided to count up the Christmas cards I have been making and stacking in a box and shock, horror found I have made more cards than I have people to send them to .  I was so determined I wasn't going to be a last minute Annie that I have become a bit obsessed with making them, trouble is I still want to keep making them and I have stuff I haven't used yet!   I didn't really need this stamp, I have been looking at it in our local craft shop and thinking it was rather nice, I had already bought the bird one in the same series and made paper pieced cards with it, after resisting for so long (about 2 weeks!) I saw a lovely card made with it on flowersparkles blog, the next time I went in the shop it fell into my basket. These Woodware stamps are amazing value, I think this one was £3.75 or near enough. The strip of Christmas trees is a paperchain strip, don't think I'll ever make paperchains with them but thought they were rather nice.

We Three Kings

I "had" to have this stamp set after Christmas last year as I had a beautiful card sent to me using it and it has layed unused since then so thought I had better give it an airing.  The background is pan pastels (love them for easy backgrounds) The star was a craft stamper freebie, cut out and embossed with razzle dazzle ep, as is the edges of the main piece, I had the EP everywhere, seemed to just fly off onto everything, in fact a friend who came today ended up with a glittery face after sitting at my table and I have supposedly cleaned up since I did the card! Having one of those days where I don't seem to have done anything but I've been busy all day ! Well thats not quite tru as I spent ages watching Barbara Grey on Create and Craft,  I have never had much success with a brayer although I do like to mess about with one, I just get frustrated when I see how she makes it look so easy ! Just played about with these Justrite stamps, I'm sure there is so much more I could do with them, just need to play about more. The background paper was a free download.I was going to put this on Vintage Stamping but although I've seen a couple of blogs where people mention the challenge I can't find it when I go to the challenge site ? what to do ?

Oh dear I've had a dis arrrster darlings and broken my cuttlebug !  OH took it to bits this afternoon and I've actually smashed a metal piece in half, thats what you get with over shimming !! Its been an amazing piece of kit, my sister bought it for me in the very early days of cuttlebugs and its really had some hammer over the years. Now my real dilemma is :- do I buy another bug which was my first thought or should it be a Big shot ?  I've seen Big shots for sale cheaper or as cheap as the bug but I've never used a Big Shot, do they do everything a cuttlebug does ?  I almost went for a Grand Caliber but saw somewhere that you cannot use Sizzex dies with them, as I have quite a lot of them that rules the Caliber out, any helpful comments gratefully received !

French Femme

Taken a little break from Christmas cards again,  can't get my head round making anything else at the moment , its only the end of October and I'm well ahead of myself this year, the only problem with doing them early is when it gets closer to Christmas and I start seeing all the gorgeous cards other people have done I feel like starting all over again!.

Used another piece of craftwork cards French paper, it was green so altered it a bit with pink and lilac pan pastels so it blended in a bit better, this time I did manage to leave some of the Eiffel  Tower showing. The lady .dog ,palm and wording are from an old non sequeteur set, stamped tower is Clarity stamp and of course the background text is Tim Holtz

something wicked

Almost Halloween again. Its not something I'm really into and I don't have much in the way of stamps but I thought this Off the Wall girl stamp looks a bit hallow'eeny with her top hat and bird. The witch stamp is from last year and the background is a  crafter's workshop stencil. Tonight the central heating boiler has decided to stop working so no heating and no hot water, typical,  just as they have forecast cold weather this week, tomorrow I will have to try to find someone to look at it, the man who used to do it has retired, I hate having to find someone new ! We are fortunate that we have family members who are joiners/builders/mechanics etc but no plumbers or electricians, wonder if we can talk any of the grandsons into taking up a trade ? mind you by the time they qualified it would probably be too late for us .........

Fleur-de lys

A bit late in the week for Make my Monday challenge but I'm having a hard job putting my mind to anything but Christmas cards at the moment plus I'm struggling with this horrible cough that's keeping me awake all night so the old brain is feeling a bit fuzzy ! I had another stamp in mind for this challenge but someone pipped me to the post with it, anyhow I found this Diva languishing in a box of oldish stamps so gave her an airing, after I had almost finished the card I realised I had not got any Fleur-De-Lys which was what its all about, so stamped some down the side of the card on a bit of paper which unfortunately covered up the Eiffel tower, ever get the feeling some cards are really not meant to be ?  Oh well back to the Santas, reindeers and glitter !!

The Old and the new

Last night I thought I would try stamping this little wren who is another new stamp from Harrogate show, I was a tad disappointed with it as it looked so dull so I used a bit of artistic licence and added a bit of red to liven him up, a lot of the challenges last week were for autumnal themes so thought I would go with that, well the first couple of attempts ended in the bin and so I went off to bed and lay there awake most of the night coughing, some kind person has passed on their germs to me ( I know the culprit ,wait until I see her !)  Anyhow this afternoon I had another play,  the background stamp I used here is ancient, its a Carolines texture mat and I've had it for ever, I also used some very, very old bronze embossing powder which still works fine even though it smells 'orrible !!!  the leaf stamp is also old, I think it might have been an old Craft Stamper one ? coloured it all with distress inks. Although I've put it on a card here its actually a 4x4 piece and I will probably take it off the card and put it into my fat book as I don't think I would send it to anyone I know. Anyhow putting it on these challenges

French vintage

Tonight I thought I'd have  a break from making Christmas cards and use my new Justrite Paris background stamp and I'm loving it!  stamps beautifully, this time I've used the whole stamp but can see it being useful just using parts of it, the two crafty individual ladies are enjoying their Paris trip I'm sure.  Had a lovely day at the Harrogate GNP last Saturday and enjoyed meeting up with some bloggers again and also ones I hadn't met before, its always lovely to meet people who I have only known on line before, also caught up with several other craft people who I don't see very often now I don't get to the Craft club I used to go to. Came home with far too much new stash again considering I had already over indulged at Port Sunlight the week before, so many stamps, so little time !!!!

Off The Wall !

Well I don't know where this week went, can't believe I haven't blogged for a week.  Had a great day at Port Sunlight and despite all my resolutions bought several more Christmas stamps, thats whats been occupying me all week, I have made quite a stack of Christmas cards. I have been asked to do a Christmas stall and at first I thought I would but now I'm having second thoughts about it, don't think I can make enough and also make my own cards, I'm hoping to get my cards done earlier than last year so I can enjoy doing stuff later on instead of rushing to finish things.  Anyhow today I finally decided to have a play with these Off the wall stamps from Lindsey Mason, I've got nice and inky playing with stencils etc, used Lindsey's technique of masking the images with glue'n'seal, haven't got it perfect but it works really well. Anyone going to GNP show at Harrogate ?   Haven't done these for any challenges, just for fun ! Blogger won't let me put them in row so have to leave them like this.

Yardleys Lavender

Where has this week gone ? I just don't know where the time goes , again very little crafting done and its partly  due to the old brain not giving me a lot of inspiration again but also due to me feeling extremely tired once again, even went to bed at 10pm one night and believe me that is very, very early for me !  Anyhow enough moans-  onto my card....... Its my cousins 80th birthday next week and her daughter has planned a surprise party for her tomorrow night, thats her on the little circle, such a cutie and still a lovely lady. I needed to get her a little gift and her daughter suggested Yardleys lavender products as one of her favourites, they are hard to find nowadays but I did track some down, while looking on line I found the old Yardleys Advert on their site so based my card round it, she worked for some years in a chemists shop, can't remember if it was Boots but as we are from the Boot family the Inkylicious Boots stamp also seemed appropriate, layers of papers and ribbons, a flower and button and a bit of one of my fave trims along the bottom. hope she likes it.  Saturday I am off to Port Sunlight Happy Stampers festival - yeah !!!! can't wait.......

Find Joy Everyday

I wanted to make a card for Make My Monday challenge - Vintage children and spent ages rooting about among my stamps etc , I also have quite a lot of vintage pics of pretty little victorian girls but i wasn't in the mood for such sweetness !  then I found this image on Bumblebutton's site and I just love the life in it, the picture inspired my choice of papers ( all from my huge stash of free papers from magazines ) bit of ribbon and the sentiment from a set of  Hero Art sentiment stamps and a punched daisy to finish off.

Messing about with ink

Last night I decided to make one piece into some atcs, wasted a couple of them and this is what I made with the other pieces. I used to be able to rattle off atcs in no time but found it a struggle to do them, partly because I didn't want to cover up too much of the background but felt I needed to add more to them

Early Christmas

Don't know where this week has gone, seems like I no sooner get up than its time to go to bed and I don't seem to have done much in the hours in between. These cute little penguins were in with some free stamps on a magazine so I thought I'd just have a little play with them. The DP is some old Papermania that I had put to get rid of, used my new frostyville border die, cheery lynn corner die and spellbinders bauble die plus cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. The penguins are coloured with pro markers berry red and forest green and copics frosty blue.  I'm gettting on quite well with Christmas cards, each one I make I do a batch of six , its enough to do without getting the production line feeling ! vintage fashion

Oh Joy !  I finally got to make a card I really enjoyed doing, when I saw Make It Monday challenge I couldn't wait to get going and make a card just for the pleasure of doing it.  Think I have spent too long making cards that I thought would sell or specific cards for various birthdays etc. Took a piece of Melissa Frances paper and stamped various images on it from an Inkilicious set (those of us who remember pre decimal money - I think the money is added up wrong ! I make it 21/6d ! ) Sad aren't I !!!  Used my new Marianne Oval die, some lace I bought on holiday in Greenwich (gorgeous little shop selling wooden buttons/lace etc)  stamp from personal impressions and the metal tape measure charm I have been hoarding.

Seeing Red

The title was supposed to be about my card but after blogger has messed me about for 45 minutes trying to load this card I AM seeing red !  Another old stamp dragged out and dusted off, its a beautiful rose but maybe it would have been better coloured pink  as its a bit "in your face" Still not feeling inspired , mojo has never been missing this long, he seems to have been gone all summer! I am feeling a bit like making some Christmas cards so maybe I will concentrate on that for a while.

Traditional colours

This is a very old favourite stamp that hasn't been used for a couple of years so thought it was due an outing. Simply stamped, coloured with pro markers and decoupaged, embossing folder background and done. I had meant to add some glitter to the flower centres but forgot until I saw it on here.  I'm trying to make "flat" cards this year because of the hike in postage charges! Can make the lumpy bumpies for hand delivered ones.  I've spent two days struggling to make a 60th wedding anniversary card for a lady to give to her husband, this has reminded me of why I don't do commissioned cards ! I don't know the couple concerned so its a stab in the dark, ended up going for the champagne glasses, red roses stuff, not enamoured with it !

All for free !

Well back from London ,hectic time there, packed a lot into our few days and the weather was very kind to us too but I'm glad to be home again, I'm just a country bumpkin at heart and find the crowds and traffic and noise all too much for me !  Mojo is still on vacation but I did manage to knock together this little card for our Great grandaughter who will be three next week. The reason for the heading is that all the papers were free in a Making Cards magazine and the stamp was free from Creative Stamping magazine too.

Ice Cream ?

Fashionable Stamping challenge last week asked for ice cream colours, I'm not really an ice cream fan, when I do have ice cream it has to be a chocolate coated one, Magnum or my favourite very dark chocolate bournville ones, sometimes I'll have a coffee one or when I can find it Maple Syrup ! none of these colours make for a very exciting colour scheme so I had to include a little pink although I really can't stand strawberry icecream . My card also follows Try It On Tuesdays sketch. I had been messing about trying to make vellum poinsettias so the flowers are left overs from that. The papers are all freebies from a magazine. We are off to London on Monday for a few days so won't be any crafting and worst of all I won't have any internet access !   I'm hoping I come back with a bit more energy and inspiration.

I managed to complete my total of selling 100 cards for our Wednesday group charity (Parkinsons disease) Its taken up a lot of my time and the staff in the hairdressers shop want me to continue but after this week I'm not doing any more as I need to do other things !  Made this little Christmas card using the double sided clear sticky paper and white glitter and I love the snowy effect. Vintage Santa's here again!

Well here's my first Christmas card of 2012 !  my sister tells me she has nearly made enough cards for this year, I'm always going to get going early but never do. What got me started was Sugar Creek Hollows challenge for Christmas in July card in Vintage or Shabby Chic style. here I've used my Stampendous vintage santa , graphiv 45 papers and my new spellbinders layered poinsettia die which I couldn't get hold of last year so made sure I had it this time around.A few more challenges it will fit I think

Stamped and embossed and the did the finger painting bit with distress inks and perfect pearls spritz.Restamped and 3d'd the watch & key etc. The plane is an Artemio stamp, background DP using an old Stampin up background stamp and pan pastels. Really enjoyed making this tonight. I am giving myself a break from the charity cards, sales have slowed down a bit but I have sold over sixty cards up to now so I,m quite happy with that altho I am still hoping I can do the 100 !

Challenges for this card are

Hey Girl

I've been making sympathy cards this afternoon so tonight I felt like making something a bit more fun.  I've had this saucy girl for years but she has been gathering dust along with her friends in the bottom of a drawer, thought it was time she had an outing, bit of collage stamping for the postcard and an outlines stamp for the wording. A couple of challenges..

Not a stamp in sight on this card, most of the papers and the image are from Graphic45 and just added three embossed golf balls to make a really quick card. After I'd made it I started to wonder if Golf is classed as a sport ? surely it is, anyhow I'm entering it for a few challenges

Sugar Creek Hollow  - Vintage - Its all about sports
The Secret crafters Saturday Challenge - sporty
Its All about the vintage - anything goes -vintage/retro etc
Make it Monday - always anything goes

Don't know what on earths up with blogger tonight ,its driving me up the wall, taking for ever to do anything !

Three butterflies

I'm a little disappointed at how this card looks on here as it does look better in real life!  the top half is a very pretty vellum with little silver flowers on that just look like dirty smudges on here !
I used some more new Justrite stamps that somehow came home with me the other day, they are so pretty, just love them.  I wanted to use my spellbinders butterfly circle die for the surround but I can't find them anywhere, hope someone hasn't taken them home by mistake, if they have sure they will realise sometime and return them or maybe they ARE still here somewhere among my clutter!  Seen a few challenges for butterflies/wings so here goes

Always something creative - Butterflies
Picture and scrap                 - Wings
Card Cupids                        -  Wings
Make It Monday                 -   Anything goes

Fleuriste

Just managing a few minutes on my poor neglected blog, I have been snowed under with making cards for my charity money raising, think I am going to have to stop soon as I have no time for anything else, I set myself a goal of selling at least a hundred cards and I am well over the halfway mark now.I did enjoy my craft shop visiting day out with makes and takes at both places and of course a few bits and pieces just fell into my basket including the Newsprint Fleuriste background stamp above, I love it just on its own ,seemed a shame to coevr it up so just added the lady from Non Sequeteur? and the freebie butterfly stamp from Craft Stamper. The background piece is a cover a card stamp and its more pink than it looks on here. Thought this might do for the Fashionable Stamping challenge which is about getting inky, I have used distress inks to colour it. I must remember to actually put in on the challenge this time, I wondered why I had not got any comments on the Asian challenge, well I hadn't added it to the challenge.

Hydrangea

Can't believe it's over a week since I put anything on my blog. I have been very busy crafting but not anything to put on here.  A couple of weeks ago I was moaning about having loads of cards and didn't know what to do with them, the neighbour I was talking to suggested I put them in the local hairdressers to sell but I'm not good at selling my cards, never think anyone will want them, however she went ahead and asked them if I could sell them for our charity and they said yes.I took a box full down there and within four days they were on the phone asking if I had anymore - panic !! I rustled up another batch and took them down and now they are wanting more ! then my "egg lady" who calls once a week found out I was doing them and asked for a dozen assorted cards , whoo its very nice but as it takes me approximately a couple of hours a card time is in short supply. This is one of the simpler ones but even this takes a while with the stamping, colouring, punching etc. I'm having a day off from it tomorrow, off  to Samuel Taylor's in the morning and Craftwork Cards in the afternoon with a pub lunch in the middle. Just putting this on Make It Monday's challenge which is , as always Anything goes
